Mastopexy (breast uplift)

Mastopexy London and Liverpool Mr Hassan Shaaban

Introduction

Mastopexy also known as sagging or pendulous breasts are the consequence of relaxation of the ligaments which support the breast tissue. The inevitable ageing process and the force of gravity can mean more ‘droopy boobs’, which is why this procedure is often chosen by older women. Mastopexy is also an option for the younger woman who has completed her family and feels that pregnancy and breast feeding has taken its toll on her figure. Women who have lost a significant amount of weight may also notice a change in the appearance and position of the breasts, as fatty tissue is being shed. Women considering this procedure won’t usually have a problem with the size of their breasts (cup size) but with a lack of volume or ‘fullness’, especially in the upper breast. Breasts will often sit very low on the chest wall with the nipples pointing downwards, which can make a woman feel less attractive.

Whatever your reasons for considering breast uplift surgery with Mr Hassan Shaaban, the end result can have a very positive impact on both your self esteem and body image.

Consultation

Mr Hassan Shaaban is a British trained Consultant Plastic surgeon, with more than twenty years’ experience in this field. He will spend at least an hour in consultation with you, in order to ensure that you have a complete understanding of the procedure and realistic expectations about the outcome. A full examination of your breasts and a detailed discussion about your general health will be undertaken. This will give Mr Shaaban a full picture of your individual needs and enable him to tailor surgery to suit your desired outcome. It is very important to understand the limitations of surgical procedures and the inherent risk that accompanies any operation and this will be discussed with you in depth.  You will be able to ask specific questions in order to address any anxieties you may have.

Procedure

Surgery is usually undertaken using a general anesthetic and can take between one and a half and two hours. Excess skin is removed, enabling Mr Shaaban to tighten what remains and lift the nipple to a higher position on the chest wall, usually in line with the middle of the upper arm.

Mr Hassan Shaaban may remove skin from beneath the breast or from around the areola (the dark tissue around the nipple) depending on the needs of individual clients. Mastopexy is frequently combined with breast augmentation (implants) in order to reshape the breasts, giving them a fuller, more youthful appearance. The option to use augmentation will have been discussed during the consultation process.

Recovery

All major surgery makes some heavy demands on the body. For this reason, clients who are fit and healthy find that they recover much more quickly. Making sure that you are in good shape before the procedure means that you will cope much better with the after effects. You will require an overnight stay following surgery, usually because small drains will have been inserted into your chest wall post-operatively. These will need removal and dressing before you are released home. After Mastopexy surgery you should expect to take two weeks off work and avoid any strenuous activity or heavy lifting for six weeks. You will need to wear a support bra, with no under wiring, for six weeks. Sports bras are ideal for this purpose.

You should anticipate some discomfort in the first few days. This can be managed very effectively with regular pain killers. It can take up to a year for the scars to start to fade, and you should be prepared for the fact that some scarring will remain, although Mr Shaaban will endeavor to keep this to a minimum. As always, you get what you pay for… by employing a well respected, highly qualified and experienced surgeon such as Mr Shaaban, the risk of post-operative infections or other complications is greatly reduced.
